Health institutions have greatly contributed to the results attained.

This province’s Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the medical school, the Jose Marti college and the Sugar Cane Experimental Station were some of the institutions awarded, along with the municipalities of Yaguajay and Jatibonico.

On the other hand, the Electromechanical Escambray company, from the local district of Fomento, was granted the “aspiring center” condition because of the outstanding results exhibited in the implementation of the system of innovation, quality and environmental management.

Sancti Spiritus’s consultant technical council, after having rigurously analyzed 36 dossiers in 2009, agreed to grant 13 regional prizes Academia de Ciencias de Cuba (Cuban Academy of Science) and three Innovacion Tecnologica (Technological Innovation), corresponding to the individual results of a group of local scientists.
