Cuba Denounces Impunity Over Israeli Crimes in Gaza

Israel continues its illegal policies and aggressions against Palestinian population.

This support sustains the Israeli aggressive policy in the occupied territories and the war of extermination of the Palestine people, declared Cuban permanent representative at the United Nations, Pedro Nunez Mosquera.

Mosquera, who spoke at the General Assembly expressed his country's conviction that the impunity of the Israeli government has allowed the continuation of its illegal policies and escalation of aggression.

The plenary session of the General Assembly debated the report of a commission that accused Tel Aviv of crimes of war and against Humanity during the invasion it launched against the Gaza Strip between December and January last.

This document known as the Goldstone report had already been approved three weeks ago by the Human Rights Council and was considered by the Cuban ambassador as the prime objective, with a high degree of legal rigor and prepared with professionalism and impartiality.

Mosquera pointed out that the rejection by Israel of this report and its reluctance to cooperate are proof of its lack of respect for the overwhelming will of the majority of the international community.

Israel continues its criminal blockade and closure of border crossings thus worsening the living conditions of the suffering Palestinian population, the Cuban representative denounced.

The Goldstone commission confirmed that the blockade and aggression in Gaza constitute a form of collective punishment of the Palestinian people and was conceived for that purpose by Israeli authorities.

It also lists more than 1,400 deaths that include 300 children by Israel and the irrational destruction of schools, hospitals, homes, public buildings, installations of food supplies, systems of water, factories and economic infrastructure in general.

Cuba strongly condemns these actions and calls on the international community to assure that those responsible be tried with severity for the crimes committed, emphasized the Cuban ambassador to the General Assembly.
