Hugo Chavez officially welcomed the new contingent of Cuban doctors.

Granma newspaper reports that the welcoming ceremony took place at the Teresa Carreño Theater of Caracas.

The Cuban doctors will be distributed to support the work, as instructors, in primary health care centers - 7,000 in all - that have been opened across the country.

The Venezuelan President announced that 24,811 young Venezuelans are studying Community-based Comprehensive Medicine to provide assistance in 318 of the 335 municipalities of the country.

Meanwhile, Rogelio Polanco, Cuba’s ambassador to Venezuela, who also attended the ceremony, said training doctors in the community is a way to make them feel committed to the people.

According to Polanco, Venezuela’s ‘Barrio Adentro Mission’ is a unique program in the history of humankind.
