The Cuban doctors will be working in Barrio Adentro missions.

Havana, Ronald Blanco, bid the brigade farewell at this city’s Jose Marti International Airport. The group is composed of physicians, specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine, internists and dentists.

The island’s First Deputy Health Minister, Roberto Morales, highlighted the significance of the day of their departure, when Cuba is marking the 42nd anniversary of the assassination of the heroic guerrilla, whose ideas and example are more alive than ever in each of the revolutionaries and the peoples of this world.

“You are an example of this. You’re leaving for Venezuela in a day when that nation is celebrating the Day of General Community Medicine to join the army of the white coats working there at 6,711 doctor’s offices, 499 comprehensive diagnostic centers, 27 high technology centers and another 1,768 dentistry services.

He also highlighted that there are also 554 rehabilitation rooms, a similar figure of popular optician’s, and 22 eye centers, among other institutions, which make up the Barrio Adentro Mission.

The Cuban official underscored that these services have made it possible to improve the Venezuelan people’s health indicators and quality of life, an indisputable fact in spite of the various aggressions it has been submitted by the media at the disposal of imperialism.

"These results have been possible not only because of the availability of institutions and equipment but also for the sensitivity, humanism, devotion and professional competence of Cuban voluntary workers and Venezuelans offering their services there”, he stressed.

On behalf of the contingent, Dr. Jorge Luis Napoles, from eastern Guantanamo province, expressed the willingness of the Cuban doctors of being faithful continuators of Che’s work and of fighting against injustice and for peace, harmony and solidarity between the peoples.
