Bolivia Promotes Gender Equal Opportunities
The Bolivian government used the International Women’s Day to create a commission to promote public policies for equal opportunities and equality between men and women. The mission to protect gender rights was approved by President Evo Morales in a ceremony at the Government Palace.
Morales praised women role in his revolutionary process, and exhorted them to prepare better to assume positions of greater importance.
On her part, Justice Minister, Nilda Copa, said that Bolivia commemorates the100 years of International Women's Day with great achievements for 34 articles of the new Constitution vindicate women rights.
Among them she cited the ratification of the principle of equal rights without discrimination, and the prohibition and sanction of all forms of discrimination, including gender.
On the issue of violence against women, she said that it is in study the inclusion in the Criminal Code the recognition of "feminicide", rape, domestic violence, forced sterilization, sexual harassment and bad medical practice, as crimes against life and sexual freedom.
