Ivory Coast Plight Alarms UN
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has started on Tuesday pulling various political and diplomatic reins in the face of the worsening situation in Ivory Coast.
UN spokesman Martin Nesirky has released a statement which underlines that the organization is following the evolution of that African country's situation closely, after the government and the electoral commission in Ivory Coast were disbanded last Friday.
The statement also calls on Ivorian politicians and international organizations to prevent instability and speed up talks in order to hold the postponed elections as planned.
In the meantime, UN special envoy to Ivory Coast Choi Young Jin met Ivorian Prime Minister Guillaume Soro in Abidjan on Tuesday to discuss the current tension in that country.
Elections have been postpone many times since 2005, this time they are slated for March and were called to elect the first President since violence broke out in 2002.
